Bob Dorf, author of the startup bible, is coming to Riga

Bob Dorf will be in Riga, speaking at a free event on November 27 within the framework of the Deep Tech Attelier event. Interested participants are invited to apply. 

In one week the well-known author, speakers and practitioner will be in Riga, participating in a variety of events. On the 28th-29th, Bob Dorf will be speaking at a closed event, where one ticket costs 850eur. However LIAA, in collaboration with Deep Tech Atelier, have made it possible for anyone from the public to attend a Bob Doft event, free of charge. All that's required is to register online in advance, which can be done here

The event will begin on Tuesday, November 27th, at 14:30, and will run until 19:30 when the networking session begins. The program will include a keynote presentation by Bob Dorf, a Q&A session, and a panel discussion including Dorf and other individuals from the startup ecosystem. The full program can be seen here.

 Who is Bob Dorf?

Bob Dorf is the author of The Startup Owner's Manual, which was published in 2012 and quickly became a bestseller. He is an advocate of lean startup management and customer feedback and development. Having founded seven startups himself (which he defines as "two home runs, two base hits, and three great tax losses"), and mentored more than two dozen (of which seven IPOed, and six "went straight in the toilet"), he has certainly developed a lifetime of experience in building startups. 

His book is a 608-page step-by-step guide to real-life startup management, and he currently travels the world helping startups, businesses and orgainzations see the benefit of customer development. 

He is known to be extremely realistic about managing startups and defined that startup teams have to be made up of at least 3 kinds of people - the hacker, the hustler and the artist. He also believes that business plans should be thrown in the garbage, that they are a waste of time. Rather than writing a business plan and attempting to foresee how many clients you'll have, he believes it is more worth a startup's time to get down to actually start talking to users and customers.
