With more than 160 submissions from startups representing 29 countries, the applications to the second Riga program (Batch 9) of the Startup Wise Guys accelerator have closed. Along with expected application activity from Latvia and Estonia, startups from Ukraine and Serbia positively surprised recruitment team with a higher application activity than the locals. The same goes for Armenians, who showed high activity after the successful participation of the Inapptics team in the Tallinn program.
Applications for the biggest B2B startup accelerator in the region - Startup Wise Guys - have closed. Over 160 teams applied from over 29 countries, with applications from Latvians and Estonians being eclipsed by applications from Ukraine and Serbia.
In total, only 10-11 teams will be selected for the accelerator, of which 8-9 will be international. They'll begin work on September 18th and will continue until mid-December. To ignite collaboration among and within each of teams, accelerator will take place in one of Riga’s newest and most novel co-working spaces, Teikums.
“If Estonia and Tallinn doesn’t require much explanations in the international startup and tech scene, then recruiting startups for program in Riga took a bit more effort. However, we are super excited to see that our recruitment roadshow covering more than 25 destinations in CEE and beyond have paid off and there are plenty of international startups eager to accelerate with us, no matter what’s the destination. However, we do hope startups will truly enjoy Riga and benefit from the friendly ecosystem here,” comments Cristobal Alonso, Global CEO at Startup Wise Guys. During the second half of August, 25 selected teams will come to Riga for an intensive 3 day program with the Startup Wise Guys team, their top mentors and investors. Another important part of this visit is getting to know the Latvian startup ecosystem and Riga as a city, where they'll be spending 3 months.
This will already be the second Startup Wise Guys acceleration program held in Riga. The previous one was held in autumn of 2016, with seven international startups graduating from this program, including local success-story Anatomy Next that raised 500K eur shortly after the accelerator.
