Until June 20, 2017 Latvian social & urban development technology start-ups with a global target market are invited to apply for participation in the START TELAVIV 2017 competition. The 5 selected startups that will have been chosen to move on to the final pitching session will be announced until July 1st, 2017.
A jury of professional startup and social entrepreneurship experts will choose the winner on July 5, 2017, at a closing event that will take place in Riga, at the Teikums co-working & experiment space. The best social or urban development (smart city) representative of a Latvian startup will win a trip to Israel and participate in the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival on September 3-7, 2017.
Israeli Ambassador Mrs. Lironne Bar-Sadeh comments:
“I am so pleased that every year Latvia is among a small select group of countries that is chosen to participate in the competition and event. This demonstrates our strong belief in Latvia’s capabilities and entrepreneurship capabilities. I am sure we will have a wide range of ideas and talented people, and we will aim to choose the best startup to benefit from this unique opportunity.”
The 2016 START TEL AVIV competition winner Ilze Zaharane from CheeksUp has described her experience at the DLD Tel Aviv Innovation Festival 2016: “This was a wonderful opportunity to widen my horizon. To see the so-called start-up nation’s work in the tech market, as well as on the streets and in the heat of events. I heard many stories of experiences that are unique, inspiring and educational. To have an opportunity to meet and build connections with 30 great entrepreneurs developping remarkable ideas in various countries of the world – it was very special. These became very “warm” contacts and new friends."
"I can say that in Israel, there is a very wide range of entrepreneurship support activities. It seems that like nowhere else, both the state institutions and the people have expressed the desire to support their entrepreneurs and as a result they have very effective support programs and initiatives. Latvia and Latvians have a lot to learn and grow to that level, but we do have the opportunity! I’m very grateful to active people in Latvia that organize these events and bring startup culture into our country."
"My wish for this year participants is to conquer the Latvian shyness, to take part and speak loud about your startup. Last year I almost missed this opportunity because I was sure that I wouldn’t be chosen over the strong competition. My wish for the winner is – hold on! For the program in TelAviv is so full of events and impressions, that there will not be much time for sleep!" says Ilze Zaharane.
