10 finalists of TechHub Riga Academy announced, Rention featured in Russia's biggest newspaper, BitFury launches a mobile Bitcoin mining datacentre and more. 

10 finalists of TechHub Riga Academy announced

TechHub Riga reveals that this year the Academy received more than 50 very strong and professional applications from startup teams of 10 countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Poland and Finland. The 10 winning teams include 4 Latvian startups: a flight simulator for sales BranchTrack, a  network of storytellers Writer.is, electronic shooting system FOCUSD and automated screening of applicant bank statements Nordigen. Additionally, Giraffe 360, which is now headquartered in UK also has Latvian roots, growing from Cesis business incubator, Latvian co-founders and an office in Liepaja.

Rention featured in RBK Real Estate among 5 unusual real estate startups

Rention is a Latvian property management app bringing together landlords, tenants and utility service providers. This week Russia's biggest newspaper's RBK Real Estate section featured 5 unusual real estate startups from arround the world. Besides Rention, the article features 3 startups from the US and 1 from Russia.

BitFury launches a mobile Bitcoin mining datacentre

World's most funded Bitcoin miner BitFury co-founded by Valery Vavilov from Riga has launched a new product. The solution is a Drop-in mobile Datacentre, which can be moved around as needed. Centre's size is 400 square feet or about two shipping containers big and delivers a dozen petahashes of Bitcoin transaction processing hash power.

LatBAN and LVCA will determine the best investors of the year 

On Feb 3 LVCA and LatBAN will determine the best Latvian investors of the year, both among funds and individuals. The event is supported by ALTUM and "Diena", and sponsored by SEB bank. The funds will compete with their investments in 5 prize categories:

  1. Investment of the year
  2. Sale of the year
  3. Financial consultant of the year 
  4. Legal consultant of the year
  5. Industry supporter of the year

Additionally, individual private investors (business angels) will compete in 3 prize categories:

  1. Rising star (investment with the highest future growth prediction)
  2. Golden star (investment with the highest return)
  3. Green star (investment with the most positive impact on the environment)
